Annual inflation in Canada stood at 1.9% in January, compared to 1.8% in December 2024, Statistics Canada said in a report on Tuesday. Month-on-month, the consumer price index (CPI) increased by 0.1%.
The rise in CPI was mainly attributed to energy prices, which jumped 5.3% compared to January 2024. Meanwhile, food prices fell 0.6% on a yearly basis, the first annual drop since May 2017, driven by a 5.1% drop in prices for food purchased from restaurants.
