House Dems to block efforts to oust Speaker Johnson

House Democratic leaders announced on Tuesday they intend to block efforts by some Republicans to oust Speaker Mike Johnson due to his role in helping pass the foreign aid bill.

"At this moment, upon completion of our national security work, the time has come to turn the page on this chapter of Pro-Putin Republican obstruction. We will vote to table Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s Motion to Vacate the Chair. If she invokes the motion, it will not succeed," House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries (pictured), Democratic Whip Katherine Clark and Democratic Caucus Chair Pete Aguilar said in a joint statement.

The announcement comes after Georgia Republican Taylor Greene proposed a vote on removing Johnson from the post over his backing for additional funding for Ukraine and several other GOP representatives voiced support for her proposal.
