The United States Electoral College's certificates of the votes cast during the 2020 elections have been secured amid the evacuation of the Congress after protesters entered the chamber, sources from the spot reported on Wednesday.

The news comes shortly after participants in the protest contesting President-elect Joe Biden's victory in the elections stormed the buildings in Capitol Hill. One person had reportedly been shot in the process.

Meanwhile, sitting President Donald Trump urged the demonstrators to refrain from violence and remain peaceful.
