Xi Jinping seeks 'good start' with US in Trump's new term

Chinese President Xi Jinping on Friday expressed Beijing's willingness to have a "good start" with Washington under the incoming Trump administration, adding that the two countries can become "partners."

In the first telephone conversation since Donald Trump's reelection, the Chinese president emphasized Beijing's desire to advance bilateral relations between the two countries, highlighting the importance of respecting each other's core interests and major concerns, and advocating for finding appropriate solutions to address them.

Xi Jinping revealed that he discussed the Taiwan issue with the US president-elect, along with the ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East.
