Taiwan's defense department reported on Wednesday that 32 Chinese aircraft and eight ships were detected near the disputed island in the past 24 hours.
Among the aircraft, 16 crossed the median line of the Taiwan Strait and entered sectors within the island's air defense identification zone, which does not constitute a breach of Taipei's airspace but can lead to diplomatic tensions.
In response to the Chinese military presence near its borders, Taiwan deployed ground-based missile systems and sent air and sea patrols to monitor the situation, the defense department confirmed.
