Head of Russia's paramilitary organization Wagner Group, Yevgeny Prigozhin, said on Thursday that there are currently no signs Ukrainian forces are abandoning their posts in Bakhmut as the fighting rages on in the city's west.

"It must be said clearly that the enemy is not going anywhere. They organized defense inside the city, first by rail, then in the area of high-rise buildings in the western quarter of the city," Prigozhin noted in a Telegram post.

The remarks come a day after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Kiev would consider the possibility of withdrawing from Bakhmut if there's a risk its troops could be encircled by Russian forces. NATO also commented on the situation at the front yesterday, saying there's little prospect for peace in the near future.
