An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.1 struck off the coast of the Aegean Sea in Greece on Saturday at 12:46 UTC, according to the data provided by the Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC). The tremor was followed by five aftershocks.
The first quake was registered at a depth of eight kilometers. Its epicenter was recorded 108 kilometers east of the city of Thessaloniki with a population of 354,000, and 19 kilometers east-southeast of the town of village of Nea Roda.
The five aftershocks occurred within 30 minutes of the initial quake, starting with a 3.5 magnitude tremor at 12:50 UTC. This was followed by a 4.1 quake at 12:52, a 3.9 at 12:53, a 4.0 at 13:09, and a final 3.4 magnitude shock at 13:11, according to the EMSC.
