Tragedy struck in the Central African Republic's capital Bangui as a boat, overloaded with mourners heading to a funeral, capsized, resulting in the deaths of at least 58 individuals.
The head of civil protection, Thomas Djimasse, confirmed the grim toll, acknowledging the challenge in determining the exact number of casualties still submerged beneath the water.
The incident occurred on the Mpoko river on Friday, with witnesses and social media footage indicating that the boat was carrying over 300 passengers at the time of the accident.
