A strong, 6.0-magnitude earthquake shook the waters near the northernmost Japanese region of Hokkaido on Tuesday afternoon, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre reported.
The quake was registered at a depth of 51 kilometers, and was located 132 kilometers northeast of the city of Hachinohe and 106 kilometers south of the town of Urakawa.
There were no initial reports of injuries or infrastructure damage.
