ADP: US private payrolls increase 178,000 in July

Employment in the United States private sector increased by 178,000 in July, according to the ADP National Employment Report released on Wednesday. June's figure was revised upwards from a rise by 158,000 to a 191,000 increase.

The number of workers in goods-producing companies was up by 4,000 from June as construction jobs increased by 6,000, natural resources and mining were up by 3,000, while payrolls in manufacturing fell by 4,000. Services added 174,000 jobs, most of which were in the professional and business sector, up 65,000, education and health, up 28,000 and trade, transportation and utilities, up 24,000.

The number of people employed in July rose by 83,000 in midsized businesses. Small firms and large companies followed with increases of 50,000 and 45,000 respectively.
