Syrian military factions agreed on Wednesday to appoint Ahmad al-Sharaa, the leader of the revolution that toppled Bashar al-Assad, as transitional president of the Syrian Arab Republic.
"The interim Syrian administration authorizes new President Ahmed al-Sharaa to form an interim legislative council during the transitional period, which will assume its duties until a permanent constitution for the country is approved and enters into force," the Syrian Presidency added.
A decision was issued to dissolve the People's Assembly and the army and suspend the constitution.
