Airbnb Inc. said on Wednesday that will pay €576 million to the Italian Revenue Agency (IRA) as a negotiation to avoid the peninsular government seizing over €779 million from the online accommodation service for alleged tax evasion.
"This mutual agreement means we can focus on continuing our collaboration with Italian authorities on taxes, short-term rental rules and sustainable tourism for the benefit of our community," the rental platform stated on its page. The amount refers to transactions from the hosts processed from 2017 to 2021 that the IRA claimed in November had been missing from the collection of rental income tax.
For 2022 to 2023, Airbnd said to be still on "constructive engagements" with the Italian prosecutor.
