Airbus SE said Thursday it had reached an all-time milestone in 2023 with record sales of more than 2,000 net orders, as airlines stepped up purchases to meet growing demand for fuel-efficient aircraft in the wake of the pandemic.

According to the latest figures, the European manufacturer recorded 2,094 net orders, boosted by significant deals with Indian carriers IndiGo and Air India and a notable purchase of Turkish Airlines unveiled in December.

In addition to sales, Airbus exceeded its annual delivery target, delivering 735 aircraft against an estimated target of approximately 720. The news comes as its main competitor, Boeing, faces a new legal battle over the latest incident involving one of its aircraft.
