Alaska Republican Governor Mike Dunleavy has been reelected, taking over half of the vote after final tallies were released on Wednesday, while Senator Lisa Murkowski (pictured) also secured a second term in office.
Dunleavy has become the first governor since 1998 to win back-to-back elections in the state. The gubernatorial election is the only statewide race that will not progress to a ranked-choice voting tabulation, as Dunleavy won a majority of votes. Other candidates were Democrat Les Gara, former Governor Bill Walker, an independent, and fellow GOP member Charlie Pierce.
Murkowski, the only Senate GOP member on the ballot who voted to convict former President Donald Trump at his impeachment trial last year, defeated Trump-endorsed GOP rival Kelly Tshibaka in a runoff.
