The decision to stop the merger between the rail transportation company Alstom SA and German tech conglomerate Siemens AG is an "economic mistake" that will serve China's interests the most, France's Minister of Finance Bruno Le Maire (pictured) claimed on Wednesday, adding the government in Paris will look into other "consolidation possibilities for Alstom."
"This French flagship has everything to succeed, but it must consolidate," Le Maire said.
Further, the finance minister stated France and Germany will work together in order to create a new set of competition rules for the European Union that will fit the 21st century better, as well as to help the union members deal with global competition from China and others.
