Amazon denies tariff labels on main site after WH backlash

Amazon said Tuesday it never planned to display import duties on its leading shopping site, following criticism from White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt. The clarification, reported by The Washington Post's Jeff Stein, came after Leavitt called the potential move a "hostile and political action."

However, a spokesperson explained to The Washington Post that only Amazon Haul, its discount storefront, had considered showing import charges. "This was never a consideration for the main Amazon site and nothing has been implemented on any Amazon properties," the spokesperson said.

The company's shares traded 1.16% lower at $185.53 at 10:28 am ET, minutes after the report was released.
