UNSPLASH / MARQUES THOMAS

Amazon.com Inc. is supposedly shutting down its Shanghai artificial intelligence research lab, the Financial Times (FT) reported on Wednesday.

The news outlet cited a social media post of a scientist from the Shanghai lab Wang Minjie, saying that the research lab was "being dissolved due to strategic adjustments amid United States-China tensions." According to the FT, Wang stated that he had led the team past six years through "the golden era of foreign research labs."

Additionally, Amazon spokesperson Brad Glasser announced last week that the company will cut jobs in its cloud platform, Amazon Web Services.
