Amazon seeks dismissal of antitrust lawsuit

EPA-EFE/FRIEDEMANN VOGEL

Amazon Inc. has requested a US federal court in Seattle to dismiss an antitrust lawsuit filed by Subspace omega LLC, alleging that Amazon's cloud-computing division, AWS, unfairly terminated a networking arrangement, damaging the startup's business.

Subspace, which ceased operations in 2022, had partnered with AWS to enhance internet connections for clients, including Fortnite developer Epic Games. The lawsuit accuses Amazon of anticompetitive practices and seeks $417 million in damages.

In their defense, Amazon argued that there was no obligation to provide free network connections to Subspace globally and described the lawsuit's claims as lacking merit. Subspace's attorneys have countered, accusing Amazon of leveraging its market dominance to edge out competitors, a move they claim is against the law's spirit.
