Amazon Web Service (AWS) said it plans to invest £8 billion in "building, operating, and maintaining data centers" in the United Kingdom, which the company expects will contribute a total of £14 billion to the country's GDP over the next five years.

According to Amazon, the investment package is expected to help create 14,000 full-time equivalent (FTE) jobs on a yearly basis, through an expansion of AWS data supply chains.

Tanuja Randery, Vice President and Managing Director, Europe, Middle East & Africa (EMEA) at AWS said the plan will "help meet the growing needs of our customers and partners, and support the transformation of the UK's digital economy." Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves described the announcement as "the start of the economic revival," adding it would "boost growth, unlock investment and make every part of Britain better off."
