Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba stated on Friday that a "security vacuum" in the region led to the conflict with Russia. "Ukraine gave up nuclear weapons for the sake of world peace. We have then been knocking on NATO’s door, but it never opened," he argued.
Kuleba claimed that "the world owes Ukraine security and we ask states to decide which security guarantees they are ready to provide." At a meeting with Russia held in Istanbul in March, Ukraine proposed a security agreement that would be guaranteed by international partners, but the two sides have not reached a consensus on the deal.
