OpenAI's biggest startup rival, Anthropic PBC, has supposedly kicked off talks with investors about raising capital in a deal that could value the company at $30 billion to $40 billion, The Information reported, citing an existing investor who spoke to company leaders.
This would roughly double Anthropic's valuation from earlier in 2024 and the news comes in the wake of OpenAI's pending deal that would see it raising between $5 billion to $7 billion at a valuation of around $150 billion, nearly double its own valuation from a share sale that closed around the first quarter of this year.
The Anthropic talks are early and it remains to be seen whether investors will agree to such a high valuation. Still, the startup may end up turning to an investment bank to help broker the round, as it's scheduled to present to investors at Morgan Stanley’s private tech conference in Los Angeles next month, according to materials seen by the news agency.
