Major European stock markets closed in the green on Wednesday as investors braced for the latest monetary policy decision by the European Central Bank (ECB), which is widely expected to keep interest rates steady due to tariff uncertainty. In business, Italy's second-largest bank UniCredit released its second-quarter earnings report after it decided to withdraw its offer to acquire its smaller rival Banco BPM.
The DAX rose by 0.81% at the close as Daimler Truck surged 7.32%. The FTSE 100 advanced by 0.40%, with Informa plc climbing by 4.96%. The CAC 40 jumped by 1.37%, and the Euro Stoxx 50 added 0.97%. Stellantis was the best performer on both indexes, soaring 8.96%.
The euro lost 0.21% compared to the dollar, changing hands at $1.17304 at 5:33 pm CET. Simultaneously, the pound traded 0.21% higher against the greenback to go for $1.35619.
