ArcelorMittal SA said on Thursday that its basic earnings per share (EPS) stood at $1.11 in the third quarter of 2023, unchanged compared to the same period in 2022.
The steel and iron manufacturing corporation's sales fell from $19 billion last year to $16.6 billion in the quarter to September this year, while net income dropped by 6.7% year on year to hit $929 million. Operating income amounted to $1.2 billion and EBITDA was $1.9 billion. ArcelorMittal also said its steel shipments declined 3.7% on a yearly basis, to stand at 13.7 million metric tonnes.
"On October 28, 2023, we suffered a catastrophic accident at the Kostenko coal mine in Kazakhstan that took the lives of 46 colleagues. We mourn their passing and deeply regret the devastation caused to the families of the victims," CEO Aditya Mittal said. "We are committed to learning from this tragedy and taking the appropriate action so that we emerge a better, safer Company," he added.
