Argentina's Consumer Price Index (CPI) increased by 124.4% year-on-year in August, according to a report published on Wednesday by the country's National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (INDEC). On a monthly basis, inflation climbed to 12.4%, reaching a record not seen for the past 32 years.
The division with the highest year-on-year increase was restaurants and hotels, which jumped 142.2%, followed by food and non-alcoholic beverages, which rose 133.5%, and home equipment and maintenance, with a growth of 125.0%. The sector that recorded the smallest increase was transportation, with a rise of 106.9%.
The CPI increased by 80.2% in the first eight months of 2023 compared to the same period in the previous year.
