Argentina became the 2022 FIFA World Cup champion on Sunday after its national team beat reigning champion France 4-2 in penalties.

Argentina went into halftime with a 2-0 lead thanks to an Angel Di Maria goal and Lionel Messi's penalty, but French star striker Kylian Mbappe evened the score in the second half of the game with two goals just one minute apart. Both Messi and Mbappe came back to score once more in extra time, ending the game with a result of 3-3 before the penalty shoot-out.

It is Argentina's third time to win the Cup, having won its last trophy in 1986.
