Argonne National Laboratory will use the processors developed by Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (AMD) for its supercomputer named Polaris, AMD said in a statement on Monday.
The Chicago-based national lab, which is a part of the United States Department of Energy, will use AMD's second and third generation EPYC processors "to tackle a range of AI, engineering, and scientific projects," the statement read. Google Cloud opted for the use of AMD's chips for its Tau Virtual Machines in the middle of June.
Shares of the semiconductor company gained over 1% in the premarket after the announcement.
