The Russian Defense Ministry announced on Wednesday it intercepted a Lockheed Corporation's P-3 Orion fighter jet belonging to the German Navy near its state border at the Baltic Sea and escorted it from the area.
Russia's air forces launched a Sukhoi Su-27 fighter for the purpose of the mission. "After the foreign military aircraft turned away from the State Border of the Russian Federation, the Russian fighter returned safely to its base airfield," the ministry's Telegram post read.
"The flight of the Russian fighter was carried out in strict accordance with international rules for the use of airspace over neutral waters without crossing air routes and dangerously approaching an aircraft of a foreign state," the ministry stressed.
