Stock markets in Asia traded mixed on Monday following the most recent data on Japanese manufacturing that showed that activity in the sector landed at the lowest level in almost two years. In addition to yen movements, the increasing frequency of missile launches by North Korea drew reactions in the region over the past few days.
Exchanges in mainland China and South Korea were closed due to their respective holidays. The Nikkei 225 rose by 0.54% at 7:17 am CET. The Hang Seng was down 1.65% at the same time. The S&P/ASX 200 in Australia declined 0.27% at the close.
The dollar was 0.13% higher than the Japanese yen at 7:19 am CET, trading for 144.927.
