Major stock markets in the Asia-Pacific region traded mixed in the afternoon session on Tuesday after the Bank of Japan (BoJ) decided to end its negative interest rate policy and raise the rates for the first time in 17 years. Meanwhile, the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) decided to keep interest rates unchanged. Traders also assessed the latest Japanese report on industrial production.
South Korea's Kospi Composite dropped 1% at 7:20 am CET, while Hong Kong's Hang Seng fell by 1.13% at the same time. A minute later, on the Chinese mainland, the Shanghai Composite decreased by 0.43%, while the Shenzhen Composite traded flat. Japan's Nikkei 225 closed 0.66% higher, while Australia's S&P/ASX 200 added 0.36% at close.
The dollar gained 0.74% compared to the yen, going for ¥150.26700 at 7:22 am CET.
