Stock markets in Japan, China, and South Korea experienced mixed trading on Tuesday as investors examined the recent statements made by the Bank of Japan's Governor Kazuo Ueda and Japan's unemployment rate for November. Meanwhile, markets in Hong Kong and Australia remained closed for the Christmas holidays.
Following the Christmas break, market participants were seemingly still processing the data released in the United States on Friday, which included data on personal spending, durable goods, and consumer confidence.
Japan's Nikkei 225 added 0.16% at its close. In mainland China, the Shenzhen Composite dipped by 0.99%, and the Shanghai Composite declined by 0.63% at 7:09 am CET. At the same time, South Korea's Kospi was 0.12% up at 7:24 am CET.
The dollar traded 0.11% lower compared to the yen, going for ¥142.27000 at 7:25 am CET.
