Asia-Pacific markets traded mostly higher on Monday as United States President Donald Trump announced that some Chinese technological devices, including semiconductors and smartphones, were exempt from his 145% tariff. Later, he clarified on Truth Social that a 20% fentanyl levy still applied to Chinese electronics.
South Korea's Kospi rose by 0.81% at 3:53 am CET, while Hong Kong's Hang Seng jumped by 1.91% at 03:54 am CET and Japan's Nikkei 225 grew by 1.14% at 3:55 am CET. In mainland China, the Shanghai Composite added 0.75% and the Shenzhen Composite went up by 0.96% at 3:56 am CET. Australia's S&P/ASX 200 increased by 1.07% at 3:58 am CET.
The dollar traded 0.72% lower against the yen at 3:59 am CET, selling for 142.70050.
