Stock exchanges across the Asian-Pacific region were mostly higher in the afternoon trading on Monday as investors kept a close eye on the progress of the debt ceiling agreement. United States President Joe Biden and House Speaker Kevin McCarthy struck the ultimate deal to raise the national debt ceiling ahead of the deadline that was previously pushed to a latter date.
Japan's Nikkei surged 1.18% at 7:11 am CET. Australia's S&P/ASX 200 jumped 1% and the Shanghai Composite Index added 0.48%. At the same time, the Hong Kong's Hang Seng lost 0.20%, and the Shenzhen Composite Index was down by 0.29%. South Korea's Kospi was closed for trading due to a national holiday.
The American dollar lost 0.15% against the Japanese yen to sell at ¥140.42700 at 7:16 am CET.
