Major stock markets in Asia-Pacific traded lower on Monday as investors awaited the latest Consumer Price Index (CPI) reports scheduled for release later in the week. Tokyo's inflation for December will be revealed on Tuesday, while Australian November CPI is expected to be published on Wednesday, and the week will close with Chinese December inflation data on Friday.
The Hang Seng lost 1.40% or 232 points at 3:18 am CET, while the Kospi Composite declined by 0.14%. At the same time, the Shenzhen Composite and the Shanghai Composite both fell by 0.89%. At 3:21 am CET, the S&P/ASX 200 lost 0.22%. The Nikkei 225 was closed due to Old Age Day.
The dollar traded 0.18% higher against the yen, going for 144.49700 at 3:22 am CET.
