Stock markets in Asia traded mixed on Tuesday after the Japanese government nominated economist Kazuo Ueda as the next governor of the Bank of Japan. Over the next few weeks, his hearings before parliament, which will likely approve his appointment, are expected to reveal more about his monetary policy plans.
The Nikkei 225 increased by 0.64% at the close. The Shanghai Composite was flat at 7:05 am CET and the Shenzhen Composite Index was 0.37% lower at 7:20 am CET. The Hang Seng was down 0.20% at 7:21 am CET. The Kospi gained 0.61% at 7:24 am CET. The S&P/ASX 200 closed 0.18% higher.
The dollar was down 0.27% compared to the Japanese yen at 7:26 am CET, trading for 131.924.
