Aston Villa hires Unai Emery as new coach

Aston Villa FC announced on Monday it has appointed Unai Emery (pictured) as its new head coach after previously firing his predecessor Steven Gerrard.

The Spanish former footballer, who will take over the club on November 1, coached a number of clubs over the years, including Valencia CF, Sevilla FC, Paris Saint-Germain FC, Arsenal FC, and Villarreal CF. Among the titles he won as a manager are three UEFA Europa Leagues with Sevilla and one with Villarreal.

In its confirmation statement, Aston Villa stated it was "delighted" to announce Emery's appointment.
