At least 9,000 United Auto Workers (UAW) from Ford's largest United States plant in Kentucky will go on strike on February 23 if local contract issues are not resolved. The aforementioned are distinct from the ones that the UAW ratified with automakers in the previous year.
"After Ford Motor Company has failed to reach a local agreement with UAW Local 862 at Kentucky Truck Plant more than five months past the contract deadline, UAW Vice President Chuck Browning has requested authorization from UAW President Fain to set a strike deadline at Kentucky Truck Plant for 12:01 am, Friday, February 23rd," the union noted in a statement.
The main concerns addressed in the local negotiations revolve around the health and safety conditions within the facility. These include ensuring adequate levels of in-plant nurse staffing and addressing ergonomic issues.
