Two people were killed at the Ismaili Center in the Portuguese capital city of Lisbon on Tuesday after an Afghan attacker stabbed them to death with a knife. The suspect was shot by the police, detained shortly after the event and taken to a hospital.
Prime Minister Antonio Costa commented on the incident, saying that it was an isolated act of violence and that it is premature to make conclusions at this point. The police haven't determined the reasons behind the attack yet.
The Ismaili Centre is one of six such places of worship worldwide, where the members of this Shi'ite Islam minority regularly gather.
