United States Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said on Saturday that the Russian invasion of Ukraine is "not inevitable" and that Russian President Vladimir Putin can still "choose a different path."
"We hope that he takes it. We hope that he steps back from the brink of conflict and we hope that he de-escalates," Austin said during a press conference.
Austin agreed with US President Joe Biden that Putin already decided to attack Ukraine but insisted there is still time for him to change his mind.
