Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese is looking to make an official visit to China later this year following the first high-profile trade talks between the two countries in over three years that are scheduled to take place next week.

Australian Trade Minister Don Farrell will virtually meet his Chinese counterpart Wang Wentao, according to a report published by South China Morning Post on Thursday, with the two officials expected to discuss the possibility of Beijing removing restrictions on the imports of Australian goods.

Commenting on the Chinese imports ban, Australia's Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade said that it "will take time to resolve, but it is in both countries' interest for trade impediments to be removed." Albanese is also hoping for a face-to-face meeting between Farrell and Wang as the next step, the sources added.
