Austria's Finance Minister Gernot Bluemel announced his resignation on Thursday shortly after Chancellor Alexander Schallenberg revealed he would soon be stepping down from his post.

There were reportedly several reasons behind Bluemel's decision, including family matters as well as the fact that he was a close counselor of former Chancellor Sebastian Kurz, who said earlier today he would be retiring from politics.

Bluemel's successor is expected to be announced tomorrow.
