The Kazakh Ministry of Transport reported on Wednesday that a passenger plane owned by Azerbaijan Airlines crashed near the city of Aktau in western Kazakhstan.
According to the ministry's statement, the airplane was traveling from Baku to Grozny when it crashed, with the circumstances of the incident still being under investigation. The plane was carrying 62 passengers and five crew members, according to the Azerbaijani Press Agency (APA). Kazakhstan's Health Minister Akmaral Alnazarova stated that initial reports showed six survivors of the crash, who are in serious condition.
The aircraft was identified as the Embraer 190 AHY8243, and it reportedly declared an emergency situation after colliding with birds and experiencing a steering failure with a landing, according to APA, citing Kazakh air navigation services provider Kazaeronavigatsia.
