BP plc is currently undergoing an emergency shutdown at its Whiting Refinery in Indiana following a power outage, the company notified the local government.
"As a result of this power outage, additional product is being burned, which will cause additional flaring of the stacks. This flaring is a safety release to burn off the extra product and is a normal process during an event. BP is working to resolve the power outage as quickly as possible," the Whiting city authorities added on Thursday.
According to multiple media sources, there has been a significant fire at the facility, resulting in the evacuation of workers and the closure of Indianapolis Boulevard.
