BYD Company Limited, the Shenzen-based car company, launched its first-ever electric vehicle factory in Southeast Asia, China's Securities Times reported on Thursday.
"Today, one out of every three electric vehicles sold in Thailand is a BYD," Chairman Wang Chuanfu said during the opening ceremony, adding that between 2021 and 2023, the sales of electric vehicles in Thailand jumped nearly 40%.
The plant, located in Thailand's eastern Rayong province, has an estimated value of $490 million and a production capacity of 150,000 cars annually.
