German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock said on Wednesday that Israel's renewed attacks in the Gaza Strip are "shattering the tangible hopes of so many Israelis and Palestinians of an end to suffering on all sides."
"The resumption of hostilities also puts at risk the positive efforts of Arab states who want to chart a peaceful path for Gaza, free from Hamas," Baerbock told reporters before starting her trip to Lebanon, urging "all sides" to "show restraint, respect humanitarian law and return to talks."
The minister also warned that resuming the attacks in Gaza has a "serious risk of wider regional escalation," pointing to the situation in Lebanon, where "there have been steps towards settling the conflict at the Israeli-Lebanese border." During her trip, Baerbock is set to meet Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and Prime Minister Nawaf Salam.
