Baker Hughes: US oil rig count down by 3 to 618

The number of oil rigs in the United States decreased by 3 to 618 in the week ending January 6 compared to the previous week, according to the Baker Hughes weekly rig count released on Friday.

Meanwhile, the US gas rig count decreased by 4 to 152 during the same week and jumped by 45 compared to last year. Oil rigs were up by 184 year on year. The total number of rigs in the country now stands at 772.

In Canada, the total rig count stood at 189, drastically up by 105 from last week. The number of oil rigs was 113 compared to 25 last week and the number of gas rigs was 76, 17 more than last week.
