The number of oil rigs in the United States increased by seven from the previous week to reach 488 in the week ending February 21, according to the Baker Hughes weekly rig count released on Friday. The rig count dropped by 15 year-on-year.
The country's gas rig count slipped by two to 99 in the reported week, down by 21 compared to the same period in the previous year. The total number of rigs in the US advanced by four on a weekly basis and declined by 34 on an annual basis to stand at 592.
In Canada, the total number of rigs slipped by one compared to the previous week and climbed by 13 compared to the same period in 2024 to reach 244. The number of oil rigs in the country remained unchanged from the prior week at 174, while the number of gas rigs decreased by one to stand at 70.
