Bank of Canada appoints new deputy governor

BANK OF CANADA / NICOLAS VINCENT

The Bank of Canada's Board of Directors announced on Monday it has appointed economics professor Nicolas Vincent (pictured) as an external non-executive deputy governor for a two-year term.

Vincent's position, set to take effect on March 13, comes following the departure of Timothy Lane in September last year. "I have no doubt that his broad knowledge of monetary economics combined with his keen interest in public policy will be invaluable in helping the Bank navigate the policy challenges ahead," Governor Tiff Macklem said commenting on Vincent's appointment.

Vincent will be a member of the bank's Governing Council, responsible for deciding on monetary policy and financial system stability. The former deputy governor, Timothy Lane, retired from the Bank of Canada in 2022 after nearly 14 years of service.
