Banksy's well-known painting Girl with Ballon was shredded at Sotheby's auction house in London seconds after it was sold for $1.4 million, media reported.

Moments after the image of a girl reaching for a red, heart-shaped balloon was sold, the shredder the elusive artist hid inside his "artist's frame" started operating and shred 2/3 of the spray paint and acrylic on canvas painting. Sotheby's has not revealed the identity of the buyer or whether their contract still stands.

Banksy summed up the stunt with "Going, going, gone..." comment on his Instagram account and a picture of stunned audience as the shredder started to work.
