Chinese Commerce Minister Wang Wentao on Wednesday criticized Washington's decision to impose a 10% tariff on goods exported from China into the United States under the pretext of the fentanyl crisis.
"China and the US have carried out extensive and in-depth cooperation in fentanyl control and have achieved remarkable results," the minister wrote in the letter sent out to US Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick. Wang also expressed Beijing's willingness to strengthen dialogue with Washington, "manage differences" and "promote cooperation."
Previously, the Chinese Foreign Ministry condemned Washington's move to impose a 25% tariff on all steel and aluminum imports, calling it a serious violation of World Trade Organization (WTO) rules.
