Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning on Monday called on the Group of Seven (G7) member states to "play a constructive role" in promoting a political settlement of the Ukrainian crisis.
"We noticed that President Zelensky took part in the G7 summit. China's position on the Ukrainian crisis is consistent, we have always believed that the crisis should be resolved politically through dialogue and consultations," the spokesperson said during the regular press briefing.
Over the weekend, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen underscored that there can be no peace negotiations without Ukraine. During the G7 summit in Hiroshima, the group's member states urged China to use its influence to end Russia's military operation in Ukraine.
